Description
This began with a simple stroll to find 'the best gelato" at midnight with my daughter. We knew the general direction we were headed but were soon lost among an isolated area of dark canals, and soon the black water was calling us down into it and all our imagined horrors emerged. We bolted, gave up the gelato search and found our way back to our hotel. But the richness of our dreaded fears became the basis of this nightmarish scene in which one's fears win out over reason. Scratchboard seemed a perfect substrate. I used a mixture of real and imagined bridges, relief sculpure and gargoyles to complete this. The title is from an Henrik Ibsen poem.
