Artist's Description

This is another exploration of the Roman arena in Arles… which my niece and I had walked through during a visit in 2005 when the town was nearly empty of tourists. As we walked around the corridor, we were blinded by the extremely bright light pouring into each passageway out to the arena, followed by the otherwise sheer darkness of the circular hall…each change playing tricks with our eyes, and our imaginations. I painted another version of this as a watercolor last year, and I feel I’m far from finished exploring this.

About Judy Frisk

Judy Frisk

I'm Judy Frisk and I'm an artist working in watercolor, printmaking and figure drawing. I've also worked in computer and multimedia programming, taught computer graphics, and in 1998 formed 2 Worlds Interactive and for 20 years designed highly visual, custom websites for music and the arts. Since retiring, I've returned to traditional art media such as drawing, painting and printmaking. My approach ranges from hyper-realism to a looser, more...
