Description

This is from my memory of a visit to Arles 15 years ago, when the town was totally empty of visitors. My niece and I wandered thru the Roman Arena and the light pouring thru the arches was so blinding in that pitch dark space, it was dizzying and disorienting. We saw only 2-3 others in there during our entire visit... from afar they felt like spirits from the past. In fact due to the effect of the extreme light/darkness on our eyes, everything felt quite magical, and ghostly as well.
When I recently came across the series of photos I'd taken there, I decided to combine various images with my own memory to create a painting about the possibility of meeting up with a past self.
